New panels to interpret the coal mining history of the area and local community ties at two parks in Caerphilly, Wales – Parc Cwm Darran and Parc Penallta. Two large earth sculptures were also interpreted: the Wild Boar Amphitheatre at Parc Cwm Darran, which is used to stage public events and highlights the significance of the boar from Roman times to today; and Sultan the Pit Pony at Parc Penallta – this 200m long raised earth sculpture is a tribute to the ponies that worked in the collieries and helped drive Britain through the Industrial Revolution.
