The Tralee Bay Wetlands Centre in County Kerry, Ireland, is a gateway to the wider RAMSAR site of Tralee Bay, providing an accessible way for people to engage with wetlands and wildlife and providing not only the interest and skills to venture out and explore further afield, but signposts to the best places to have a more wild experience. The visitor centre sits on newly created freshwater and tidal habitat providing opportunities to encounter species from different environments, all designed and created by WWT Consulting.
Whilst working for WWT Consulting, I managed the content development, interpretation design, fabrication and installation (working with W19 Design) of the visitor experience (opened 2012), which includes an inside bird hide for people to develop wildlife watching skills, a sculptural walkthrough reedbed with on-demand audio, hands-on interactivity including a tracing table and magnetic create-a-creature, and several interactive IT/AV exhibits to explore deeper content, play games and make and send e-postcards.
